Why Test Alcohol in Saliva ?

The salivary glands produce saliva which is an excellent vehicle to detect Ethanol from drinking hard liquor, wine or beer. It is well established that the concentration of alcohol in saliva is very close to that of the blood, making saliva the preferred specimen for alcohol testing. This allows for greater detection sensitivity than the breathalyzer testing method. This alcohol test strip is a very simple 2 minute test requiring no instrumentation, calibration or special training to be used effectively. It is convenient enough to be used any time, any place.

Sensitivity of the Saliva Alcohol Test

The saliva alcohol test approximates the blood alcohol concentration (BAC). The scale being tested ranges from 0.0 mg/100 ml which is a negative result up to 300 mg/100 ml, which is .30% (Nearly 4 times the legal limit in the USA).

Saliva Alcohol Test Kit Procedure

  • Do not place anything in mouth for 15 minutes prior to taking test.
  • Saturate pad end of the alcohol test strip stick with saliva (from mouth or cup).
  • After complete saturation of pad remove stick from mouth and read at the end of 2 minutes.
  • Compare reactive pad to color blocks on the individual test package.
  • Interpretation: Negative - No color change on reactive pad Positive - Reactive pad changes color in 2 minutes

I have not had a chance to use these test strips yet, and I don't know what their normal shelf life is, but I was disappointed when I received them to learn they expire in 6 months. Next time I will purchase a smaller quantity.

this is a great product. we received 150 in April and they will expire in September. WE will never use this many in this short length of time. Spoke to Hosea on 4/8 and he told me to use what we needed and he would make good what we didn't use come September. His stock was also expiring in September.
